1/7: US History 1 and 2

  The 13 Colonies into 3 REGIONS (DAY 2- 30 minute sessions)
 
LT 1. a. I can examine the regional characteristics of the original 13 colonies.


DO NOW: Grab the worksheet, find your CATEGORY group (not colonial region group).


Did NOT Do HW DO NOW: GRAB a Missed HW sheet. Complete the sheet. When done, get the worksheet and complete the worksheet solo.





INSTRUCTIONS: Using the worksheet and the information you have gathered, create a comparison chart of the three regions of colonies. To meet the expectations for today's learning target, be sure to follow all the instructions on the provided worksheet. At the end of the period, Mrs. Marsh will collect last night's homework AND your tri-Venn.

TOOLS: A writing utensil, the homework, and today's worksheet.

Description

a.  Climate and rocky terrain made growing food for easy cash really difficult.

b.  Colonists here grew major crops like tobacco, indigo, and rice.

SOUTH
c.  These colonies were the most PROSPEROUS, because they grew wheat, corn, and oats--foods that were easy to trade in other colonies and Europe.

d.  Religiously, this colony was really diverse, with Quakers, Catholics, Jews and others.

e.  In this region, most people were PURITANS.

f.   This region feature plantation, large farms that focused on making money by growing one crop. These plantations usually made money by exploiting slave labor.

g.  This region was originally settled by the Dutch (New Amsterdam).

h.  Much of this colony’s labor force relied on INDENTURED servants, or people who paid their way to the new world by promising to work for free (usually for 7 years).
