2. GALLERY WALK- for extension students (ones who are caught up). Extra time is time to work on your Vignette/Essays.

4. SLC Preparation: Using the purple or orange sheet, prepare for your SLC.

SLCs:

Student Led Conferences
Expeditionary Learning Schools consider the relationship between students’ families and the school to be of paramount importance.  During the school year, we invite students and their families to attend formal conferences that replace the traditional parent/teacher conference.  SLCs are attended by the student, parent/guardian, and other adults the student would like present. The crew leader facilitates the meeting, but the student is in charge.

During the conference, students explain their progress toward and mastery of both academic (content/skill) and Habits of Work  targets.  Students justify their progress by leading their families through a portfolio of assignments culled from academic classes. 

Students justify quarter grades in each class by referencing specific assignments that show their mastery of learning targets.  Students also complete self-evaluations of their performance in each class and share them with their families.  Students are held accountable for their progress when they explain areas of strength and areas in need of improvement.  The tone of the conference is positive with a focus on what can be done to ensure success as opposed to what has been done poorly.  

 Why we have SLCs

• To increase student accountability and autonomy concerning academics and their Habits of Work (HOWs).
• To hone student verbal communication and critical thinking skills.
• To emphasize TGS's student centered philosophy.
• To build open relationships with families concerning student progress at TGS
• To help students meet speaking standards.
• To teach students how to persuade by substantiating claims with evidence.

1. Students who did not do the gallery walk must complete the Gallery Walk make-up assignment by looking at each of the resources online HERE, due Thursday.

2. Read the King Phillip's War piece. Text-code.

3. If you still owe me something, you must come at Renaissance, or you will have lunch detention.
